You might not know that I have several blogs. One blog that I want to highlight today is the one called the Mindset Of A Champion. I simply want to ask you to go and check it out because there are a lot of parallels between learning and mastering a sport and getting better grades. Bookmark it or better yet, subscribe to it so you don’t miss any of the posts, you just don’t know which one will be the one that will have the breakthrough idea that will make all the difference.

Today’s blog post is a clarification from my Speed Learning Video Program. The quote was “The brain stops reading fast it does not want to get dizzy”. It was after I mentioned you can read 200% faster on screen using Rapid Reader because your eyes don’t have to go from left to right.
Someone contacted me and was wondering if this has any thing to do with past negative programming that the brain can work against you. For example if you have not had a lot to do with a subject and tried to take it for a study course, would the brain work against you automatically?
This is a great question – and you’re not going to expect the answer I’m about to give…

Today’s post is from Natasha, she is struggling to complete a project and study at the same time.
First things first.
You need to buy my book Get The Best Grades With The Least Amount Of Effort to learn the strategies that will help you overcome study stress and overwhelm. Here is Natasha’s situation:
______________________________________________
Greetings,Thank you for you information. I am struggling here to finish an ICT project which is due on March 27th. These days I sleep at 12.00 midnight to do the project and wake up at 3.00 am to study ICT till 6.00. I continue then go to school. I have also found that my efficiency and productivity is also less at night, but I can’t help it! At least I do less than doing nothing at all!
But at school I really find it difficult to concentrate as I feel sleepy. My teacher also scolds me…but I still want to finish the project as I started it really late and others are well ahead of me. I am really worried and lost confidence. I have paid a lot of money to sit for this exam. Would you please give me some tips to finish my project as soon as possible so that I have time to study! I went through the section where you said “Important and emergency” please elaborate more on this topic as I’ve got it important and urgent as well.
Natasha, First of all, you’ve painted yourself into a corner. That is one of the things I teach students to AVOID. Once you have painted yourself into the corner, you need to get out of it as quickly as you can.
How to get out of study stress and overwhelm
- Pick up my study book and determine which learning style you are. Without learning this, you are wasting too many hours study ineffectively. You need to STUDY LESS and REMEMBER MORE – you can’t do that UNLESS you know YOUR learning style. My study book explains how simple and easy this is.
- Once you know your learning style, you will UNDERSTAND FASTER AND REMEMBER MORE. That will give you EXTRA TIME – to sleep or catch up on other stuff.
- You decision to SLEEP or work on other projects is a priority management issue that I explain with a simple diagram so you can start to do the right things at the right time to reduce study stress, anxiety and overwhelm.
- Once you’ve done that, you will know exactly how to stay out of the URGENT and IMPORTANT quadrant. If you don’t buy my book and apply the study strategies, you’re on your own. The study tips and tools in my book are EASY to LEARN and apply. The book is inexpensive compared to the cost of NOT getting any sleep and getting poor grades and getting stressed out.
You need to start by buying my book, then applying the study strategies and then asking me SPECIFIC QUESTIONS about the strategies so I can help you get better grades with the least amount of effort!
It’s all about applying my 1 percent improvement doctrine!
Of course if you’re not speed reading, you are wasting HOURS AND HOURS reading slower than you should.
I have a Speed Reading Video Program that guarantees you will double your reading speed in less than 2 hours. That means you’ll have all that time to do projects or study. if you don’t learn to speed read, you are WASTING valuable time – time that you are not sleeping or doing something else.
Zina, a concerned mom asks how quickly my study tips can help her son. The quick answer is almost instantly. I would NOT recommend buying it the DAY BEFORE A FINAL EXAM and expecting a miracle, but even the day before an exam can be a great time to LEARN 3 or 4 EXAM TAKING STRATEGIES that work, well instantly DURING your next exam!
Without jumping into 3 or 4 tangential discussions, my book is DESIGNED to help students get better grades IMMEDIATELY. Within 1 hour of reading – even skimming through the book, a student will quickly realise how easy it is to put these study techniques to use RIGHT AWAY.
If you know a student who is struggling, buy my study book, and enter his/her e-mail so he/she gets it AND ALL THE BONUSES directly.
The sooner he/she gets it, the better.
To be straight to the point – the study strategies are so SIMPLE and EASY, some people ask for a refund because they just don’t understand the POWER OF SIMPLICITY. As you can read for yourself on this blog and the fact that my study book has been translated into 3 languages with 2 more coming, AND it’s been sold to students from 29 different countries — these strategies work.
Get the study book for your son ASAP and watch his transformation!
The Speed Learning Video Program which is included FREE with my study book will also help in the short term with short cuts, note taking tips and exam preparation strategies.
The Speed READING Program is also recommended, but if he’s in a panic with exams, it might be best to buy it and let him decide when he has time to practice. The sooner he starts speed reading, the sooner he will get the benefits of faster reading. The time he takes to LEARN he is still READING = there is no time lost. It’s not like he needs to do something else – he will only get faster and faster with no disadvantage beyond the 1 hour video he needs to watch.

My son is coming home for 3 weeks (from UK Boarding School) shortly. He is
due to sit his FINAL IB EXAMS at the beginning of May 2009. I know he has
been working HARD but is still concerned about some aspects of his 6
subjects. Would your “Best Grades” product be too late to be of any
practical use to him or would it be of significant help? Also, does this
course require a lot of learning of techniques which ultimately takes time
away from valuable revision?
I would appreciate an honest reply at your earliest convenience.
Thank you

Today’s ‘question of the day’ comes from Joy in the U.K. Actually, it’s two questions.
Many Thanks Dr Marc,
This seems like a positive start for me, but I’ve got an important question.
I am currently in my penultimate year in the university, studying in the UK. I was just wondering if these study skills to get better grades are skills for only students in The USA or also relates to the students everywhere else.
Study Tips For Better Grades
My strategies have been used by thousands of students to improve their grades in 29 different countries and the book has been translated into 3 languages. Students from grade school, middle school, high school, college, university and post-graduate programs have used the study tips and techniques successfully.
My study tips and tools work for science subjects, social science courses, engineering, law as well as medicine.
Also I’ve got another problem which I find difficult to solve is the interest to study, I think I have the interest as I promise myself to study everyday but as soon as I pick up my books to study I lose interest immediately again it takes me so much time to understand a few lines of words while studying and I can hardly remember them too which is to say I think they do not register. It has been a great concern to me and I have been too shy to speak to anybody. I know and have this confidence in me that makes me think I am intelligent and can make it but as soon as I encounter a difficult task I become weak and just give up. I am afraid I will fail and have to repeat a class if I don’t find a solution quick.
I need your help please and hope to hear from you soon.
Regards
Joy
How To Study Subjects You Don’t Like
There are two issues at play here – the first is you THINK you are interested in the subject matter, but the reality is you’re not. If you were, you’d have NO TROUBLE STARTING. I’ll prove it to you.
If you are a stamp collector and you start to read about the new issue of the new Olympic Stamps for the London Games – you have NO PROBLEM with focus, attention or retention do you?
That’s because you’re INTERESTED.
The challenge we all have as students is that EVERY ACADEMIC PROGRAM has courses we don’t like. I remember hating Thermodynamics in Engineering School, Chemistry in College and Multi-Variate Statistics in Business School (Ph.D.).
But y’know what?
YOU DON’T HAVE A CHOICE. It’s part of the curriculum and you have to pass the course to get the diploma and the degree.
I suggest you do THAT homework FIRST – get it out of the way – DON’T DO WHAT YOU LIKE FIRST. That is a recipe for disastrous grades – it will increase your chance of failure BECAUSE you’ll spend MORE time on what you like and not enough time on what you don’t like…
Don’t do it.
Of course that’s easier said than done. BUT if you start studying what you don’t like, you’ll feel RELIEF and a LOT LESS STRESS. We all have to study stuff we don’t like – we NEED TO. We need to be aware of things because that’s what education is all about. There is NOTHING you can do about it -EXCEPT to get it out of the way FIRST and QUICKLY.
If you want to get through the boring subjects quickly, get your hands on my Speed Reading Video Program so that you spend LESS time on the subjects you hate. Speed Reading will FORCE you to focus and concentrate and get it out of the way in a fraction of the time. Imagine spend HALF the time on chemistry, physics or geography… How cool would that be?!?
Student Self Confidence and Self Esteem
That being said, the SECOND issue you have is with confidence and self-esteem. That is a lot harder to deal with. If you are keen to deal with this, I have a colleague who can help you get a breakthrough. Her name is Yvonne Mcintosh and she has ‘breakthrough sessions‘ for $97 that she can do over the phone. She’s based in Australia, but you can definitely do it through Skype for FREE or via a long distance calling card. Click on the hyperlink if you want to overcome this self-esteem issue quickly.
If you don’t choose to have the breakthrough session, all you need to do is top putting pressure on yourself and focus on the fact that whenever you LEARN something NEW, it’s by definition something YOU DON’T KNOW.
It takes time and effort to learn something NEW.
One of the strategies I teach is to start at the beginning – for example for Statistics, I bought the Cartoon Guide To Statistics to get the basics in a FUN WAY. I bought this as a Graduate School Student to help me with my MBA and Ph.D. courses.
I’m serious. I did the same for other subjects as well.
The “For Dummies” series of books is a GREAT PLACE TO START whenever you’re intimidated with a subject.
Fundamentally – we all put ourselves under pressure – when you put the study tips, techniques and strategies in my book, Get The Best Grades With The Least Amount Of Effort in practice, you’ll gain self-assurance and confidence within 2-3 weeks.
This will be especially true if you learn to speed read!
Good luck!
Loise Roebeck wants to know how long it takes to get better grades – GREAT QUESTION! Of course you know the answer, but your might not know the SOLUTION to make that happen. Today’s post is what I suggest you do once you’ve bought my e-book.
Step #1 To Get Better Grades Faster
Do ALL the exercises in the e-book TODAY/TONIGHT. The longer you wait, the longer it will take. I know this sounds self-evident, but without the exercises, you have NO STARTING POINT.
Step #2 To Get Better Grades Faster
Learn to learn faster with the BONUS Video I include for FREE with my e-book, called the Speed Learning Video Program. Watch the video and get started with as many of the suggestions as you can with the HOMEWORK you have RIGHT NOW. If you are keen, GO BACK a week and re-do your notes and revision using these strategies RIGHT NOW.
Step #3 To Get Better Grades Faster
Learn to Speed Read TODAY/TONIGHT by buying my Speed Reading Video Program so you can double or triple your reading speed THIS WEEK instead of in 2-3 weeks or months from now.
I know you might think this is a sales pitch – but c’mon we’re NOT talking about HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS.
BOTH of these programs (three in fact – the e-book, Speed Learning Video and Speed Reading Video Programs) are LESS THAN THE COST OF A TEXTBOOK.
If the cost is holding you back, I have to be blunt – YOU CAN’T AFFORD to get better grades.
Sorry, go somewhere else and try to get ‘FREE’ stuff on the Internet and come back when you can afford my products.
Does it surprise you that I just said that?
I hope it does. Y’see I work with only the most committed students because they are the ones who’ve had enough and want a better way to study.
They want the same or better results than I’ve produced for myself – which are all documented on my product pages.
But let me tell you something – even though this solution and easy-to-follow system is available to anyone who has access to the Internet – only a select FEW ever step up.
People like Loise who wants to get it done as FAST AS POSSIBLE.
So do what I suggest in my e-book and programs, but do IT NOW.
I have to tell you a story about a motivational seminar I attended with a friend about 15 years ago. At the end of the seminar, I told her that the presenter mentioned 3 books that I had not read. So I proceeded to go buy them. My friend objected adamantly declaring “You can buy them tomorrow”.
No I can’t. I have to buy them NOW so that when I get home (at 9 PM), I can start to read them.
The sense of urgency I create for myself is higher than most people => I get results faster than most people.
Loise, just DO IT TODAY!
Today’s post is from a Pastry Chef in Melbourne. “Speed reading is starting to help me especially with concentration and comprehension, I read through the pages of the document about Host Beneficiaries the other night real easy, normally I am not a reader and would not get through it.”

You’re in school to learn HOW to learn.
I am pretty sure it was Albert Einstein said it best when he said “Education is what you remember after you’re forgotten everything”.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t study to get As or High Distinctions.
It just means that if you adopt a ‘bigger picture’ of why you’re there, you’ll enjoy the process a lot more, find it easier and you will achieve better grades.
I had a professor of strategy in my MBA program who, once I had been accepted into the Ph.D. Program asked me “are you enjoying the Ph.D. Program as much as your MBA?”
My automatic response (at the time) was “No”.
He said “I know why.”
Of course I pushed him for the revelation (that changed my academic career forever)…
He explained “When you did your MBA, you knew, when you started exactly when you would finish (my program was a 2-year Executive MBA with a pre-set schedule). With a Ph.D. Program, it’s an individual pursuit with a beginning, but no pre-set end. In fact most students never finish/graduate. That’s why you are not enjoying it as much as you should/could. There is no ‘timeline’ to it.”
“Wow!”
I couldn’t believe how true that was. From THAT DAY ONWARD, I cherished every single day I was a Ph.D. student, or a student of Law, or a student of company governance or student of squash.
I know that if you’re in grade school or high school this may be reaching a little beyond your current consciousness, but TRUST the process and TRUST that you need to ENJOY the journey to make it as successful as it can be for you.
Give it some thought and don’t rush to a conclusion.
Onward and upward!

I am getting quite a few e-mails from readers of my book “Get Better Grades With The Least Amount Of Effort” – please respond via comments to this blog – that way you can get backlinks to your sites, get exposure as well as help others in the process.
I am really enjoying your feedback -the breakthroughs people are having are very inspirational – I am amazed at how many foreign students are buying my book. If English is not your first language, my book’s easy to read and the strategies are simple and easy to implement.
The very first post to this blog explains how you can focus on what you don’t know you know to get INSTANT and powerful results.
I was reminded of this by khamha Sithirajvongsa via an e-mail he sent me. (Ideally, you should post a COMMENT TO THIS BLOG at the bottom of each post).

Hi Dr Marc,
Thank you for your great advice. I believe It helps me to think about
myself to know about what I don’t know and I know I. These great
lessons you give help me to develop myself and what I know.I’m sorry, I am very limited in the words to explain myself… Thank you.
Kind regards,

Today’s post is a series of questions from Virginia Buratto.
You say “use coloured pens” (by the way almost everyone knows this technique) but you don’t say if one should read a text first and then highlight it or if he should highlight straight away or if it is better to read the whole book a couple of time before dividing into sections and start studying.
First, just because ‘almost everyone knows this technique’ doesn’t mean I should ignore it. In fact quite a few students either don’t know it OR don’t do it. Just look around at your classmates’ note books and you’ll see most STILL DON’T DO what works.
The question on highlighting is a GREAT ONE. I suggest you SPEED READ your material FIRST. Then and ONLY then will you know, AFTER reading it what is important and what is NOT. Then you can go back and highlight accordingly. Ideally, you do this BEFORE your class as the SECOND pass.
Because I teach SPEED READING, I suggest you learn that skill. If you haven’t yet bought my video program, it’s only $47, buy it now. It’ll pay for itself with the first hour when you at least DOUBLE your current reading speed. If you don’t SPEED READ, that’s unfortunate because it’s an easy skill to develop so I don’t really have suggestions for non-speed readers. Sorry.
Moreover you never mention any memory techniques (and that surprised me a lot). Why? Do you think they are overrated? I truly expected the book to present a system that combined speed reading for comprehension and memory techniques for remembering was able to make the difference for every student.
When I wrote this book, I wanted to keep it SIMPLE and to the point. Otherwise it ends up being a big, thick, complicated book. The strategies I teach WORK for EVERY SINGLE PERSON who applies them. I have not found the need for memory ‘systems’ and you are the first person to mention this. BUT I have to be honest – if you are NOT SPEED READING, comprehension and memory will be a problem. SPEED READING decreases the time it takes to read, but it also dramatically improves comprehension and memory WITHOUT having to learn any systems.
Before ending this letter I would like you to know that I didn’t mean to be rude or to offend you in any way. I truly admire you and look up to you for what you have been able to do in your life. I simply feel like that in this book “the meat ” isn’t there (let me point out that instead the speed reading course is very well done).
Virginia, I understand your perceptions and I know many people would like it to be ‘more complicated’, but it’s not. That is the POWER of the book’s message. Once you ‘own’ these strategies, your grades will improve and you’ll come to realise the GIFT I am giving you – Getting Better Grades With The Least Amount Of Effort is all about “The Least Amount Of Effort” bit.
This is lost on many people and I know you haven’t missed that message. You are not alone – people WANT it to be more complex and complicated, that way they won’t feel as bad about what they haven’t done all this time. Once they get over it, they realise the STRATEGIES are SIMPLE, EASY and STRAIGHT FORWARD. That is why they are so powerful and within EVERYONE’S REACH.
Complex memory techniques are not – they require training – training that can be avoided with what I teach.
In your book you say that we should model those who are better than us in a particular field by asking them questions. So if you don’t mind I would like to ask you some questions. When you where studying law what were you doing? Did you study in the morning or late night? How long was every study session? Did you find it hard to concentrate after a certain amount of time studying? Did you read the whole book a couple of times before highliting it or what? How did you remember things?
I always study at night. You need to determine what works best for you. I prefer to study for several hours at a time and get into the ‘groove’ of my thoughts. I will read whenever and wherever I have the opportunity. On a plane, waiting for a plane, for an appointment, etc. I carry my reading material with me EVERYWHERE I GO. That is the KEY to optimal time management. I only SPEED READ the material ONCE. I then highlight it AFTER I have read it. Memory is not a problem when you SPEED READ and use the strategies in my book. No one who has applied the strategies has ever asked for memory or comprehension ‘assistance’.
Thank you so much. English isn’t my first language that’s the reason why my English isn’t always correct and easy to understand.
Thanks again
Virginia Buratto
